Beaver Dam, AZ- Arlene Pollock Hughes, 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in her home in Beaver Dam, AZ. She was born March 1, 1941, in Springdale, UT to Denzil & Emoline Brooks Pollock. She married Bob Arvin Hughes on March 4, 1959, in Gardnerville, NV, and passed just shy of 67 years of marriage to her sweetheart.
The Pollock family moved to Hawthorne, NV in 1941. She enjoyed Rock Hounding with her dad and loved her family summer vacations driving the West Coast Line. She fully embraced Bob when he arrived home from his mission in 1958. Arlene graduated from Mineral County High School in 1959 where she was in Pep & Glee Club. She also enjoyed playing softball with the church. After having her first 3 children in Hawthorne, Bob & Arlene moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1962, where the last 3 children were born. Arlene was a foster mother to over 20 children in Las Vegas. She is family oriented and supportive, she never had a favorite child but instead claims that each one of her children all had their time. Arlene first worked in food prep at Sears Cafeteria in the Boulevard mall, then found her calling in Accounts Payable for a few small companies, then for Clark County, where she retired in 2002. Arlene was an avid bird enthusiast and belonged to The Las Vegas Bird Club, she was a bird breeder along with rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish and chicken. Arlene travelled the country, being dragged along on Bob’s Bowling trips. One of her all-time favorite trips was the Cruise to Alaska. She loved the Holidays because that was family time. She loved Halloween and she always went as a witch; she had one of the best witches cackles you could imagine. Her literal witty sense of humor would put a smile on anyone’s face, unless you were her teenager, then it was eyeroll-worthy. Besides her family, her greatest love was crafting. She loved doing ceramics, crocheting, macrame, beading, making Dreamcatchers and doing art shows. She was an active member all the way through her life of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and has a great love for the savior and is a Child of God.
She is survived by her husband Bob Hughes Sr of Beaver Dam, AZ; her 6 children and spouses- Robin & Dearl Sneed of Las Vegas, Bob Jr & Toni Hughes of Las Vegas, Brad & Melinda Hughes of Surprise, Arizona, Sheila and Paul Orr of Las Vegas, Ramona & Ralph Smith of Browning, Illinois and Fawn & Jason Worthen of Las Vegas, NV. As well as 25 Grandchildren and 43 Great Grandchildren; her sisters- Denise Andrus of Nampa, ID & Ranae and Jim Billings of Hawthorne, NV.
Preceded in Death by her parents Denzil & Emoline Pollock and her Grandson Thomas Sneed.
Her services will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 3260 E. Highway 91 Littlefield, AZ 86432 on Friday, February 20, 2026. The viewing will be from 9:30-10:45am (MST) with funeral services at 11:00am. Interment will be at the Littlefield Cemetery.
