Beverly Joan Muilenburg, 16 (according to her), passed away Saturday, January 17, 2026.
She was born December 19, 1944, in Tyler, Minnesota to Wesley and Joyce Petersen (née Sharp). Raised the second of six children on a South Dakota farm without running water or electricity, she knew hard work from an early age, from winter lambing to long summer days in the field. But she never lost her flair–her nails stayed red and tan lines never stood a chance. As she would throughout her life, she took on as many activities as she could: she tumbled, was a cheerleader, sang in the school choir, and played the bass drum.
Beverly and her husband, Maurice, knew each other since childhood, and they married on July 22, 1961, in De Smet, South Dakota. Together, they raised their three children across South Dakota, California, and Nevada, making trips to the closest casino wherever they were. Across their moves, Beverly worked as a nurse, using her compassion and hustle to take care of people. Eventually, Beverly and Maurice settled in Boulder City where she became the indispensable Nana to her eight grandchildren, and later, the loving Grand-nana to her three great-grandchildren.
Beverly taught them all how to garage sale, dance around the Christmas tree, and make the most of surface streets. She was always available, but it was best not to call during her shows: The Young and The Restless and The Price Is Right. She sang, painted, square danced, and polkaed. She believed that ANYTHING could be DIY-ed. She never bought bouquets but made her own arrangements. Her secret, she claimed, was using baby’s breath to fill in the gaps; her family would say her artist’s eye played a larger role. More than anything, she loved games, and her favorite was “I Win, You Lose,” especially if there was money on the line. With her, there was never a dull moment, and love was all around.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice; her children: Kym (Bradley) Rassuchine, James (Pam) Muilenburg, and Diane (Bob) Conklin; her grandchildren: Kymmie (Daniel), Kacy (Tyler), Hank, Jenna, Hayley, Timothy (Caitlin), Aaron, and Edward; her great-grandchildren: Paizley, Bode, and Kaisa; her siblings: Barbara (Jerry), Cynthia, Scott (Donna), and Curtis (Lisa). She is predeceased by her sister Lynda, brother-in-law Jack, nephew Marti, and parents Joy and Wes.
Her ashes will be buried this summer in South Dakota next to her parents and sister. We invite family and friends to leave condolences or memories at www.starmortuary.com.
