Las Vegas, NV – Blaine Edward Babinchak, 74, passed away May 13, 2025, at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, NV. He was born April 23, 1951, in Springville, Utah, to Colleen Northrup Estes and Andrew Edward Babinchak. He was married to his beloved wife, Maureen Dyson, on November 27, 1971, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Blaine Edward Babinchak was a man of many talents, deep loyalties, and quiet passions. Born with a sharp mind and a strong set of hands, he lived a life marked by service, creativity, and a deep love for his family.
Blaine served his country with honor as a veteran of the Vietnam War. That experience shaped his strength, resilience, and perspective on life. After returning home, he spent his working years as a skilled mechanic, someone who could fix just about anything. Whether it was a car that wouldn’t start or a stubborn engine, Blaine brought patience, knowledge, and care to every job he took on.
Outside the garage, Blaine was a craftsman in every sense of the word. He had a deep love for woodworking and was often found in his shop carving, sanding, and building something meaningful with his hands. In contrast to the grease and grit of his day job, Blaine found calm in delicate hobbies such as ceramics, cross-stitch, and crochet. These rare gifts were ones he passed on and shared with pride.
Blaine was a bit of a contradiction in the best way. He could be grumpy and gruff, but always with a twinkle in his eye and a joke not far behind. He loved to laugh and often brought lightness to those around him with his unexpected silliness and dry humor. His jokes sometimes came at an inappropriate time, which only made them more memorable and, in hindsight, even more endearing.
He was also a keeper of stories. As one of the family's dedicated historians, he cherished the past and worked hard to preserve the names, dates, and tales of those who came before so that future generations would remember where they came from.
He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Family History Center in Las Vegas, NV, where he shared his passion for Genealogy and ignited that spark in others.
He is survived by his eternal wife, Maureen of Las Vegas, NV; the embodiment of their love in their children Christina and her fiancé Wayne of Las Vegas, NV, Blaine and his partner Lexi of Chicago, IL, Tiffany of Las Vegas, NV, Kimberly and her husband Daniel of Henderson, NV, and Melissa of Las Vegas, NV. He was a proud grandfather to Michael and his partner Gabriela, Brandi and her husband Josiah, Natalee, Lilly, Cooper, Jacob and his wife Chandler, Matthew, Lauryn, Morgan, Nadia, Maxx, Magnus, Grace, Leland, and Thaddeus. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Kayden, Collin, Jaxson, Noah, and Blair Rose. He is also survived by his sisters, Candice “Candi” of Utah and Cassandra “Sandy” of Utah, and his heart sister Peggy and her daughter Angela.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Colleen; his father, Andrew; his brothers, William “Bill,” Andrew “Andy,” and Dennis; and his nephew Christopher.
Though he is no longer with us, Blaine’s legacy will live on in every story told, every piece of wood lovingly carved, every stitch in a handmade quilt, and every smile sparked by a memory of his gentle grumpiness and warm heart.
A short service with military honors for all whose life was touched by Blaine, followed by interment at the grave site for family members, will be held on June 13, 2025, at 8:30 AM at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr, Boulder City, NV 89005. A celebration of life will follow at his local Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ward building from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
