Bruce Gilbert Barney

Jan 10, 1954 — Jun 2, 2026

Mesquite, NV

Bruce Barney, 72, passed away Tuesday, June2, 2026. He was born January 10th, 1954, in Reno, NV to Clarice Barney-Duffney (Holly). He married Linda Barney (Anson) July 1st, 1972, at Twin Palms Wedding Chapel - Lynwood, CA.

Bruce - being born in Reno - always said the Dr. had to finish delivering the sheep before he came to the hospital to deliver him. How prophetic as he is a sheep in God's pasture now and forever. He was raised in Reno until he was six and moved to Las Vegas, NV.

He began his love of music as a toddler when he learned to play accordion. From there Bruce learned guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, percussion, harmonica and was most recently learning the theremin and lap steel. He worked for Startrack studio as a recording engineer and was front of house sound engineer for Blood, Sweat and Tears. He played in many bands including "Under Grace". He built sound systems and provided consultations for several churches, trained and provided audio / visual aid for them. Most recently, he was managing the crew at Living Waters Fellowship in Mesquite, NV.

He loved working with his family who followed in his footsteps, teaching them their instruments and working as a family ministry providing worship music since his children were old enough to play as "The Barneys". Bruce worked as a dishwasher, cook, served in the U.S. Army for seven and a half years as a communications specialist and in the reserves and NV National Guard as a Chaplain. He was also a chaplain for "Campers for Christ". He worked as an electronics technician, a well logging technician and retired from the LVVWD as an industrial electrician.

Bruce grew up in Las Vegas, NV with four brothers and a sister. They loved Scouts, boating and of course - music. He met his other four brothers when their sister passed away - Bruce was 33 years old. They enjoyed each other for many years, sharing many interests - including music! He attended Rose Warren Elementary, Hyde Park Jr. High, Western High, Clark County Community College and while in the service - Cochise College in Sierra Vista, AZ.

He left NV to join the Army doing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri - he called it Ft. Lost in the Woods, Misery - tech school in Ft. Jackson, SC and Ft. Monmouth, NJ, and toured Cambrai-Fritsch Kaserne in Darmstadt, Germany and finished at Ft. Huachuca, AZ.

It was in Germany that his first child, Brandy was born and in Ft. Huachuca where his youngest, Marcia was born. He also began foster parenting and added Valerie to the Barney clan - then back to Las Vegas where he added Michelle. He always said, "Anyone who thinks they want to be surrounded by women never has been!" Bruce loved his animals, but his favorite was his pet pig - who misses him terribly. Bruce was profoundly loved by his family, but even their combined love cannot compare to the love of The Father, who has taken him home to be with Him. I bet he's playing in His band!

The Bible says in Luke 12:48 - "To whom much is given, much will be required." Bruce lived by this. He was extremely intelligent and talented. He was given much and increased what he was given. We miss you, Bruce.
