Bryan Anthony Nix, 72, of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away on June 25, 2026, surrounded by his children. A lawyer, public servant, and Boulder City fixture, Bryan devoted his life to his community, his family, and decades of work building systems of support for victims of crime across Nevada.
Born in Lancaster, California, Bryan grew up in La Puente before his family relocated to Boulder City, Nevada in the 1960s, a town that would become his home for life. He graduated from Boulder City High School, attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Denver School of Law, a city where he would later start his own family before returning to Boulder City in 1990.
Bryan’s life in public service started at 18 years old when he was appointed to the Southern Nevada Youth Advisory Council by the governor. He went on to serve the State of Nevada, being continually appointed by governors for 32 years as Senior Appeals Officer of the Nevada Department of Administration’s Hearings Division. His commitment to civic life extended to the City Council of Boulder City, where he served two terms from 1995 to 2003. As Assistant Mayor, he represented his community on boards including the Southern Nevada Water Authority and the Colorado River Commission. Bryan continued his life-long service to his community by becoming the founding director of Nevada’s Victims of Crime Program, which he built into the only such program in the country to maintain a financial reserve, reaching $20 million upon his retirement in 2018.
Bryan was an avid cyclist, a devoted dog owner, and a man who filled whatever room he was in. Known to friends as “Buyin’ Bryan” for his habit of always picking up the check, he was generous with his home, his money, and his time, often giving a roof to people who needed a fresh start. Despite a long career in government he was at heart a rebel, fiercely honest and direct, constitutionally opposed to blind compliance and proud of his own uniqueness. He was a father figure to many beyond his own family. He spent his final years at home with his son Evan, daughter-in-law Kim, and grandson Eli.
He is survived by his mother, Lovina Rebman, age 91; his former wife and the mother of his children, Suzanne Nix; his sons Evan and Adam Nix and his daughter Alison Nix; his daughter-in-law Kimberly Nix; his grandchildren Eli, Fawkes, and Romily Nix; and his brothers Bruce and Michael Nix. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert M. Nix, and his partner, Teresa Gail King. A celebration of life will be announced by the family.
