Carolyn Eileen Ashauer

Carolyn Eileen (Kliewer) Ashauer, of Mesquite, Nevada, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026, surrounded by friends and family. Throughout her life, she showed the love of Jesus to her family, friends, and strangers.

Born on February 6, 1943, in Satanta, Kansas, Carolyn was the second child of Albert P. and Edna N. (Harms) Kliewer. She was raised on the family farm near Ulysses, Kansas.

Carolyn attended Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas, and earned a bachelor's degree in English. She went on to teach high school for a few years after marrying in 1966 and before starting her family: Derek LeRoy was born in 1969, followed shortly by Rhett Montgomery in 1970, and Lesil Jene in 1972. Carolyn looked forward to being a stay-at-home mom with her children, but those plans changed when her marriage ended in 1973.

Carolyn worked for Utah Power and Light, BioMed, and Continental Airlines to support her family. She remarried in 1979 to Fritz John Ashauer and welcomed his three children into her life: Jim, Rena, and Danny.

Together, Carolyn and Fritz moved to Star Valley, Wyoming, where they lived in a cabin on the side of a mountain. Carolyn was a part-time homemaker and homeschooled the two youngest children for several years.

After raising their family and beginning their retirement, Fritz and Carolyn moved back to Salt Lake City, Utah, before taking on the joyful challenge of caring for their granddaughter, Vive, for three years. Although she shared a special bond with Vive, Carolyn was close to all of her grandchildren. She cherished their visits to the cabin and, later, to Mesquite, always researching activities, restaurants, and entertainment she knew each grandchild would enjoy.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Larry and David; her husband, Fritz; and her stepson, Jim. She is survived by her sisters, Connie Crowder and Debbie Bate; her children; fourteen grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service celebrating Carolyn's life will be held at Calvary Chapel Mesquite in Mesquite, Nevada, on Friday, July 31, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Chapel Mesquite or to a cancer charity of your choice.
