David Randall Allison passed away and went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, November 21, at Henderson Hospital with his family by his side, at the age of 79. He was born on February 4, 1946, in Alliance, Ohio to Ruth Allison and Dale Allison. David spent his formative years there, in the “Carnation City.”
David shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Jane (Wehner) Allison. They married after graduating from college in Alliance on August 17, 1968, and began their married life moving to Berea, Ohio. He was a loving and proud father to his two sons Scott and Shawn. He enjoyed being part of their activities growing up, supporting their school and music achievements, boy scout endeavors, and sports. When possible, he was even a swim meet announcer and timer.
He graduated in 1968 from Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio with a degree in Business. Upon graduation he started his career in sales with IBM Office Products Division, and after extensive training from IBM he began his future in sales. He went to Phoenix, AZ, an area he always loved where he began his 30+ years career in the Greeting Card Industry, with American Greetings. As a sales representative, then recruiter for the west coast, and director of sales training he moved from Phoenix to southern California, then to headquarters in Cleveland Ohio. From there he moved to Newport News, VA to be a district manager for AG. Purchased a greeting card distributorship, growing that business in Virginia into Seasons Greetings Inc. with accounts in mostly the southeast. He was the president of Seasons Greetings for 10 years until he sold the business to Paramount Cards in Pawtucket, RI. Then he moved to Rhode Island, where he assumed the position of VP of sales for the northeast. When they later closed their operations, David traded greeting cards for cinnamon rolls, and opened the Cinnamon Cafe in Rhode Island, where he enjoyed baking and conversation with the customers.
Remaining in Rhode Island, he was called back into the greeting card industry by Designer Greetings in Edison, NJ. He was VP of sales until he retired in May of 2015. Always having enjoyed the west, he and Jane decided to settle close to their son Scott and his family in Henderson, NV.
Music was always a huge part of David’s life, from cherub choir through college and in every place that he lived across the country. While in college, the choir traveled and sang on a world tour which he always remembered with glee and nostalgia. Even though David moved around quite a bit, wherever he went he would find a Methodist church and profess his faith through music as a member of the church choir. He found friendship and enjoyment as a singer in the Red Mountain Choir in Boulder City; he had a beautiful tenor voice, and a superior ear for harmonizing.
One of his most joyful moments was attending the grandchildren’s orchestra concerts and recitals whenever possible. His four grandchildren filled his heart with love and pride and brought out his biggest, brightest smiles.
Having played football and basketball in high school, he was most definitely into sports; an avid fan of football, basketball, baseball, and “desert” hockey. Later he gained a special interest in soccer, after his grandson Ian, in Nevada, was involved in that sport. He would attend every single game, even with temperatures over the 100s. He sat at the sidelines with his hat and umbrella, always positive and cheering on the team.
David will be remembered for his patient and welcoming nature, his strong work ethic, his great sense of humor, and quick wit. He always had a smile on his face and made you feel like you had known him for years. He loved people and their stories. Truly, his warmth, kindness, and genuine presence left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Jane of Henderson, his sons Scott (Claudia) of Henderson, NV, and Shawn (Abbey) of Fort Myers, FL. He was so proud to be grandfather to Sophia and Ian of Henderson, and Simon and Taran of Fort Myers. He is also survived by younger sister Christine (Ruth) Allison of Canton, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Dale Allison.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Elaine K. Smith building, 700 Wyoming St. in Boulder City.
