Las Vegas, Nevada — David A. Hernandez, 80, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. He was born on August 30, 1945, in Havana, Cuba, to Jorge Alberto Hernandez and Virginia Roque (née Arregui). On June 13, 1970, he married his beloved wife, Hope Hernandez (née Requejo), in Las Vegas, NV.
David was a proud U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran, having served with the 101st Airborne Division. A man of deep faith, he cherished his family and was a devoted husband, father, and Pompah to his grandchildren. As both a former high school teacher and college professor, David touched the lives of countless students across Southern Nevada. He had a love for history and was a man of many stories. His greatest joy in life was helping others and making everyone feel special.
David is survived by his wife, Hope, of Las Vegas, NV; daughters Charity Molitoris (Mark) of Westminster, CO, and Joy Weir (Tim) of Henderson, NV; grandsons Michael Guido (Amber) of Boise, ID, Aric Guido of Las Vegas, NV, and Benjamin and Nicholas Molitoris of Westminster, CO; granddaughter Angela Weir (Gage) of Henderson, NV; and his beloved dog, Poppy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and a large extended family who loved him dearly.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will take place at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a U.S. Veterans organization of your choosing.
