Dorothy Faye Evans Amerson, age 100, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on August 14, 1924, in Lutie, Oklahoma, to Estella and Thomas Evans, Dorothy was reared in Wilburton, Oklahoma, as the youngest of five children and became a centennial in 2024.
When the love of her life, Orville Dee Amerson, returned home from his tour of service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, they got married and spent 63 years together. A year later, while living in Shafter, California, Dorothy and Orville gave their lives to Christ.
They eventually made their home in Grants, New Mexico. After Grants, they sally-forthed to Henderson, Nevada. For the past 18 years, Dorothy was a faithful member of Green Valley Baptist Church.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, friends, and church community. She was known for her generous heart, sharp mind, quick wit, and radiant kindness. She brought joy to everyone she met. She never knew a stranger and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Orville Dee Amerson; her son, Larry O. Amerson; her granddaughter, Shelly Sedberry; and her son-in-law, Larry J. Sedberry.
She is survived by her two daughters: Carol Sedberry of Houston, TX, Denise Chavez and her husband, Andrew Chavez, of Henderson, NV.
She also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward her legacy of love, laughter, and faith.
Dorothy will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
We will forever cherish the memories, time and the gift of her presence in our lives.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Dorothy’s memory may make a donation to your church, a charity of choice, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. To share a memory, visit Star Mortuary’s website.
In accordance with Dorothy’s wishes, a private celebration of life will be held with the immediate family at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery; no public service is planned.
