Dorothy passed away on August 1, 2025 at the Beehive Homes of Henderson where she lived happily for 4 years. She was born August 30, 1929 in Saugerties, N.Y. to Clinton and Eleanor Darringer the first of their 8 children. She is survived by two of her siblings Carol Ann Grafton and Bettie Tye.
In 1946 she married Robert Dayter in Albany, N.Y. and they had two children, Joy Myers and Bonnie Clark. She was widowed in 1961. In 1965 she married Ralph W. Brennan and they had two children, Daniel Brennan and Katherine Van Morris. As an Air Force wife, the whole world opened up for her including world and stateside travel and new cultures.
She enjoyed hosting family and friends whenever anyone showed up, baking delicious desserts and cooking food from other cultures, exploring museums and parks, playing games especially Bingo and watching the St Louis Cardinals. She was a devoted fan of Queen Elizabeth, following every piece of news throughout her life. When Prince Phillip died, mom wrote her a condolence letter and treasured the than you letter she received in response.
Mom’s legacy to us is her love for us all and our love for each other. Love unites us as family. It’s what she longed for, sacrificed for, and drove here non-stop engine for better or worse. She also gave to us an appreciation for art and music, new experiences, and a strong work ethic. Everyone in the Beehive knows how to make a bed properly! Her first granddaughter, Natalie, can testify to her intellectual curiosity, her ability to see ways around problems and her sense of humor. She voiced strong opinions, always had a plan and took charge over everyone her whole life.
Each new addition to family meant more to love. She is survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She has left a big empty place in our hearts and will be sorely missed till we meet again.
