Boulder City

Dorothy Aileen Runyan passed away on October 25, 2020.  Born on April 2, 1924 in Webb, Iowa, she was the daughter of Albert Van Ballah and Iva Laura Hoover.

Dorothy grew up on an Iowa farm and graduated from Havlock High School in 1942.  She met the love of her life, Merle J Runyan at age 17 and they were married for 61 years.  They put down roots in IA, NE, MN and WI until they retired to live in Boulder City 37 years ago.  She loved to travel, dance, socialize over dinner and make lifelong friendships throughout the country.  She especially loved her summers in Poipu Beach, Hawaii.  Dorothy had an amazing memory and her friends could count on her to tell the best stories.  She will be greatly missed.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Merle and their daughter Susan Choe Runyan.  Her brother Howard Ballah and sister Barbara Finley also precede her.  Dorothy is survived by her niece Kim (Dave) Boyum and nephew Bruce (Melanie) Finley.  She also has two great nephews, Jeremy (Jill) Quandt and Glenn (Amanda) Boyum who both have children.

Funeral services will be held at 9:20a.m. on November 9th at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, loved ones can make a donation to Lend a Hand of Boulder City.
