Eddie Hayes
July 11, 1926 — July 9, 2016
Eddie Hayes was born on July 11, 1926 in Memphis, Tennessee to Ida Lee Livingston and Peter Hayes. He accepted Jesus Christ at a very young age. He served in the Military before moving to Detroit, Michigan where he met and married Vera Jordan, who preceded him in death. From this Union three children were born, Gerald E Sr. (Sandra), Deborah and Jeannette. Five grandchildren, Qiana J, Gerald E Jr., Alysa A, Ervin C Jr. and Evette G (Michael); and three great-grandchildren, Cierra M, Shadae, and Cryena.
He worked at GM Diesel in Redford, Michigan for 30 years. After the passing of Vera, he returned to Memphis and married Mildred Nelson, who preceded him in death.
Eddie loved to be outside cutting grass and planting flowers. He never met a stranger. He gave much of his time to the Douglass community. He was the President of the Douglass Alumni Association for many years as well as an active member and Co-Founder of the Angel Tree.
He moved to Henderson, Nevada in 2014 and lived there until his passing on July 9, 2016. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday July 14, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
