Elbert Eugene Rounds "Gene", 84, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011 unexpectedly after entering the hospital the day before. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Terry, five daughters, Debbie Ripley (Bill) of Medford, Oregon; Cindy R Richards (Peter) of Snellville, Georgia; Rebecca Anselmo of Boulder City, Holly Eberle (Will) of Las Vegas and Ginger Edmonson-Shaffer (Larry) of Boulder City, 16 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Gene was born in his grandparents' home on June 27, 1927 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin the only child of Grace Burpee and Ferdell Orval Rounds. When Gene was five years old, his mother entered a sanitorium for tuberculosis and remained there for five years where their only contact was her waving from her window. During this time, he and his father lived with his maternal grandparents where he had many cousins to play with.

In 1941, the family moved to Tucson, Arizona for Gene's mother's health. In High School, he was a star baseball player. He graduated as WWII was coming to an end. In 1953, Gene received his Bachelor's degree in Geology from the University of Arizona and married Theresa Derby the next day.

Gene was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army 1st Cavalry stationed in Elizabethtown, Kentucky and Japan. He then received a second Bachelor's degree in Engineering. He worked in Bisbee, AZ; Rocksprings, WY; San Bernardino, CA; Bangkok, Thailand (a favorite); Denver, CO; and moved to Boulder City in 1970 working for the Bureau of Reclamation. He retired in 1987.

Gene had a life-long love of dogs. He enjoyed tinkering around the house and in the garage. He loved adventure, travel and was an avid photographer. He had a sense of humor often using playful nicknames and phrases. He loved to laugh, watch comedies and receive humorous cards. Gene was a very supportive husband and father who valued education as his wife, daughters and son-in-laws' received their college and upper level degrees. He was kind, congenial, and a gentleman with everyone he met.
