George Peter TiminskasDecember 14, 1943 - June 6, 2026George Peter Timinskas, Mesquite, NV, beloved husband and father, civil engineer and business owner, has left this mortal coil to return to his wife who preceded him in death, having passed away peacefully at Mesa View Hospital on June 6, 2016.

Born December 14, 1943, in Scranton, PA, he was the son of Peter and Anne Timinskas, a coal miner and governess respectively. From an early age, George took an interest in science and aviation, becoming a Cadet Squadron Commander in the Civil Air Patrol. When the Sputnik launch was announced in his high school classroom, George decided then and there to become an engineer. Eventually enlisting in the US Air Force, he became an honor graduate of Air Training Command, which led to his appointment as Lead Recovery Crew Chief on a flight of B-47 SAC Bombers loaded with nukes during the Cold War. After a distinguished military career, George returned to PA, worked himself through college as a truck driver, and ultimately became a registered land surveyor and shortly thereafter earned his degree in civil engineering from Penn State University.

Not satisfied with the mundane engineering landscape of Scranton, George and his young family moved west to Las Vegas in 1980 to begin a new adventure as the Senior Facilities Engineer at the Nevada Atomic Test Site. During this historic period, George was selected to be the senior engineer for the Augmented Test Program, widely regarded as critical to America's success in bringing to a close the Cold War. George's leadership and expertise on this, and a wide array of top secret initiatives and projects, ultimately led to his nomination as Chief Facilities Engineer at Area 51.

Yes, THE Area 51.For the past 30 years, George made his home in Mesquite, establishing a prolific engineering company directly across from City Hall in his wife Kathryn's business offices, Mesquite Executive Suites. During that time, George designed and engineered several recognizable city buildings and landmarks, such as Heritage Park and River Valley Bible Church, extending his business through Bunkerville, Overton, Moapa Valley, Arizona, and even as far north as Ely. Capable, strong, curious, and adventurous, George loved hunting, boating, motorcycling, camping, working on his cars and exploring the local area. George's mind was full of technical information, broad experience, and a wide breadth of historical knowledge, which he readily shared with all around him, especially while watching his favorite TV program, Jeopardy.

Continuing his legacy are his three children: son Stephen and wife Katie; son Nicholas and wife Shante; daughter Elizabeth Early; and six grandchildren: Gus, Sofia, Vivianne, Iris, Ava, and Amara Rose.

A celebration of life and memorial Mass will be held Wednesday June 17th at 1pm at Virgin de Guadalupe Catholic Church, Mesquite, followed by burial next to his beloved wife at Mesquite Cemetery on Hardy Lane. Viewing will be on the same day at 11am at Star Mortuary, 300 Riverside Rd, Mesquite.
