Herman Richard Johnson, 85, passed away April 12, 2026 in his home following a brief battle with cancer. Rich was born on June 19, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Harvey Alfred Johnson and Ella Lenora Templeton. He married Sandra Lou Evans in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rich, as he was known by friends, was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was one of 12 siblings. He attended school for Civil Engineering and went on to serve in the United States Air Force. Upon his discharge from the USAF, he settled in Las Vegas, Nevada and became a licensed electrician and was an active member of the IBEW Union. During this time, he worked at the Nevada Test Site.
Rich was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing the guitar and keyboard. He sang and performed at local bars and dance halls. He met his loving wife Sandy and together they built a log home in Utah and resided there for four years before finally settling down in Mesquite, Nevada.
He is survived by his wife Sandy Johnson of Mesquite, Nevada: Children – Linda and John Selman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Lisa Johnson of Livingston, Texas and Todd Evans of Mesquite, Nevada. Grandchildren – Danielle Kohr and significant other Niccolo Bongioanni of Las Vegas, Nevada, Zoe McDowell of New York, New York, Keith and Jazmine Kohr of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mr. and Mrs. Dustin McDowell of Texas. Sister – Lois Ward of Texas, and ten great- grandchildren along with a close and dear friend Kay Murray
Rich is preceded in death by daughter Kimberly McDowel of Livingston, Texas.
Per Rich and wife Sandy’s wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. In the future upon the passing of his beautiful and loving wife Sandy, their cremated remains will be reunited and then dispersed as Rich put it “over a really good Fishing Hole”.
