Boulder City

Jack (Joaquin) Amaury Medina (83 years) of Boulder City, Nevada went to be with the Lord February 22, 2021. Jack was born in Camuy, P.R on Nov. 25, 1937 to Ramon and Delia (Avila) Medina. After graduating from Power Memorial Academy, NY he enlisted in the US Army. After serving his country, he joined Rockwell International, Autonetics Division in Anaheim, CA. He transferred to Rockwell’s Space Division in Downey and Seal Beach, CA working to put man on the moon in the ‘60’s. He received 2 coveted NASA Silver Snoopy Awards (presented only by astronauts for outstanding achievements) which are awarded to less than 1% of the workforce. His achievements were honored as a Control Test Conductor in the Quality Assurance Department for work done on the Saturn II Booster and on the Apollo Moon flight program.  He left Rockwell, after 20 years, to join LeFiell Manufacturing, where he focused on the manufacturing of thrust chamber tubes for Rocketdyne engines. He ended his work career in 1999 at VSC Corp, as Vice President of Operations, Quality Assurance.

Early in his career, Jack attended evening classes to earn his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of La Verne, CA graduating in 1979.

Jack’s love of boating brought him and his family from CA to Lake Mead, NV year after year. Falling in love with Boulder City, he and his wife, Darlene, retired and built their dream home there in 1999. Jack was very involved in the Boulder City community. He volunteered at The Boys and Girls Club, Lend A Hand and Grace Community Church Country Store. Jack was also a member of Boulder City Methodist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir. One of his favorite activities was racing his beloved Hallett boat across Lake Mead’s beautiful blue waters. Between community service and boating he made many friends. Jack loved his family, friends, pets, reciting limericks, hugs, pumpkin pie and sharing his sense of humor with all. He made a difference in many of the lives he touched. He was truly loved by all.

Jack is survived by his wife of 43 years, Darlene, daughter Monee Hays of Anaheim Hills, son Sean Medina (Seena) of Westminster, grandson Bradley Medina of San Diego, brother Peter Medina of Carmel, all in CA. Daughter Debbie Rice of Newport News, VA, and sister Delia Guzzetti of Commack, NY.

My loving husband, “to the world you may be but one person, but to one person you may be the world”, and that you were to me. Family and friends can leave memories and stories at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
