James Hammond

James Nelson Hammond, age 74, of Boulder City, NV passed away on October 9, 2017 surrounded by family.  James was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Jack Pershing Hammond and Lucy Angeline Poynter Hammond on September 16, 1943.  He married Sheryl Rene Folsom on August 22, 1964 in Stigler, OK.

They moved to Nevada 41 years ago.  James worked for State Farm as an insurance agent for 33 years.  Jim graduated from Oklahoma University majoring in Aerospace Engineering.  After graduating, he entered pilot training at Vance AFB, Enid, OK.  James served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.  He piloted the F105, and during his second tour was a tactical fighter flying the F111 and flew 243 missions during both tours flying out of Takhli Air Force base in Thailand.  Returning stateside, he also worked as a flying safety officer at Nellis Air Force Base and certified planes prior to allowing pilots to take them.  He served a total of nine and half years, finally being honorably discharged as a Captain.  He received numerous honors including the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

James is survived by his wife Sheryl Hammond; two sons James Robert Hammond, John Pershing Hammond; three brothers Jerry (Sandra) Hammond, Jack (Julie) Hammond, Joe (Tresa) Hammond; and a large extended family.  He is preceded in death by a son Scott Nelson Hammond.

Jim will be missed by his family, other veterans, State Farm clients, members of his church and his golfing buddies.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 12:00 noon at the Boulder City Assembly of God, 1100 Adams Blvd Boulder City, NV 89005; followed by burial at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
