James Lavern Sims

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of James Lavern Sims, who passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of 91.

James was born on April 23, 1935, in Grand Island, Nebraska. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, unwavering dedication, and deep love for his family.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army before building a successful career in construction. He helped build grain bins, pole sheds, and homes throughout Nebraska, and his craftsmanship and commitment to quality left a lasting mark on the communities he served. After many years of hard work, he retired in Orange County, California.

In his later years, James and his beloved wife, Darlene, made their home in Mesquite, Nevada, where they enjoyed their retirement together. It was there that he peacefully passed away.

Above all, James was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He treasured every moment spent with his family and took great pride in watching it grow through the generations. His quiet strength, guidance, kindness, and love will be remembered by all who knew him.

James is survived by his loving wife, Darlene; his children, Bob Sims and Sandra Warford; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; extended family members; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

James's legacy of service, hard work, integrity, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Though he will be deeply missed, he will be remembered with love, gratitude, and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Service will be held honoring his military service on Monday, July 20, 2026 at 10:40 AM at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery located at 1900 Buchanan Blvd, Boulder City, NV.
