Mesquite

Jane Meakins Harrison, born December 1, 1922 in Mobridge, South Dakota passed away peacefully in her sleep on Easter morning, March 31, 2024 in Mesquite, Nevada.

Jane grew up in Minneapolis, MN. When she was in junior high, her parents moved her and her brother David to Victoria, MN. Later the family moved to Excelsior, MN where Jane’s sister Barbara was born. Jane attended high school and graduated in 1940. She worked in the business office for the telephone company in Excelsior, then transferred to the main business office in Minneapolis. During that time she thoroughly enjoyed driving David’s black Model T car, dubbed “The Widow Wagon” around with her many single girlfriends, looking for adventures.

On November 30, 1946 she married Edwin Harrison at St. John’s Lutheran Church on 48th and Nicolette Avenue, Minneapolis. Jane and Ed brought five children into this world, moving and raising them in Bismarck, ND: Cynthia, David, Scott, Britton and Margaret. When Ed retired in 1984 he and Jane bought an Ultra Van, and traveled all over the United States going to Ultra Van rallies, making many new friends. Their travels helped them choose a winter home in Arizona and summer home in Custer, SD.  Later in life they moved to Mesquite, NV.

Jane was a very friendly, social woman who never met a stranger.  Over the years she sold cars, worked at the Capital in Bismarck, worked customer service for the Holiday Inn and Grand Hotel. She has friends all across the United States. Jane never sat still, loved to play cards and Bingo, go to coffee or lunch with friends, was an avid reader, walker and on the go even at the young age of 101!

Over the years Jane and Ed’s children blessed them with 7 grandchildren: Michael, Dustin, Melissa, Decker, Amanda, Nicole, Maia; and 2 great grandchildren: Kye and Karter.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Pearl, brother David, husband Edwin and daughter Cynthia. She is survived by her sister Barbara; her children David, Scott (Delana), Britton, Margaret (Chris); grandchildren, great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Jane will be interned at Chanhassen Pioneer Cemetery in Chanhassen, MN. Graveside service will be held at a later date.

We would like to greatly thank Mesa Valley Estates and their staff in Mesquite for all the wonderful care they gave Jane over the last few years.
