Jean Sweningsen

March 7, 1922 — September 2, 2011

Jean Arline Sweningsen, age 89, of Boulder City, NV, passed away on September 2, 2011 in Henderson, Nevada. She was born on March 7, 1922 in New Auburn, Wisconsin to Cronje Roberts Goddard and Thelma Ella Chapman Goddard. She married Charles Anton Sweningsen on April 24, 1944 in Long Beach, California. Together they raised their family in California. Jean and Chuck moved to Boulder City in 2001 to be closer to family.

Jean was active in her children's activities as they grew up. She was a President in PTA and a Cub Scout den leader. Jean was also active in the arts community, being a past President of the La Habra, CA Art Association. She enjoyed golfing, participating in three ladies' golf associations in Southern California. She also enjoyed fly fishing, boating and genealogy. Jean was a fervent Democrat, volunteering at the election polls.

Family was a huge part of her life. Jean and Chuck were able to make several trips to Denmark visiting Sweningsen cousins. She loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid correspondent to friends and family, previously by snail-mail, and lately by email.

Jean is survived by her husband of 67 years, Charles Sweningsen, of Boulder City, NV; three children, Christian of Stuyvesant, NY, David of Boulder City, NV, and Jill (Joe) Hardy of Boulder City, NV. Eleven grandchildren: Yarrow Sweningsen, Rebecca (Colin) Teague, Sara Sweningsen. Joe (Yvonne) Hardy, Nicole (Scott) Larson, Emily (Les) Kartchner, Leah (Ric) Casper, Spencer Hardy, Dane (Delyse) Hardy, Jack Hardy, Ryan (Cara) Hardy; 18 Great Grandchildren: Raven Teague, Loma Jane Sweningsen; Joseph & Benjamin Hardy; Hannah, Noah, Jonah, Ezra, Esther Larson; Bentley & Khiara Kartchner; Barry, Gavin, Anton, Bridgette Casper; Hazel & Dane II Hardy; Graci Hardy.
