Julia Bettfreund Brooks

Julia Jean (Bettfreund) Brooks, aged 61, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, in her home in Mesquite, Nevada.

Julia was born on January 24, 1964, in American Fork, Utah, to Ted and Patricia Dahling. After the loss of her mother when she was just four years old, Julia spent her childhood in both Elko, Nevada, and Lehi, Utah. Over the years, she lived in several places that became dear to her, including Southern Utah, Lehi and American Fork, Utah, and eventually settling in Mesquite, Nevada in 2016.

In 1983, Julia married Dan Austin, and later that year they welcomed their daughter, Lacey. In February 2020, she married Timothy Brooks, her husband with whom she spent her final years.

Julia worked hard throughout her life, holding a variety of jobs including as a school lunch lady, McDonald’s, and Wal-Mart. No matter the role, she brought a warm smile and a quiet strength to everything she did. She always made friends easily and was truly a social butterfly.

She loved sunshine and being outdoors, especially in the desert heat she called home. Julia also adored her two cats, who were like her babies, and had a special love for shopping, accumulating shoes, purses and perfumes galore.

Despite facing many health challenges over the years, Julia rarely complained. She met each day with strength, perseverance, and quiet grace, always pushing through no matter what.

She is survived by her daughter Lacey, her husband Timothy, and her sister Laura. She is preceded in death by her mother Patricia (1968), her father Ted (2021), her sister Diana (2018), and her brother Kendall.

Julia will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
