Karen Mae Kasson passed away on Sunday August 24, 2025 at home in Henderson after a five-year battle with cancer. Her passing was peaceful, and she was surrounded by family and friends in her final days. She was born on June 6, 1960, in Omaha, Nebraska to Karl and Martina (Sporer) Ogg. She married Gregg Kasson on August 22, 1999, in Panama, NE.Karen spent her girlhood in western Nebraska; where she lived her early years in Scottsbluff and later graduated from Alliance High School. She completed a Bachelor of Music Education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.


Karen had a varied and interesting career path. She was a highly organized, efficient and hardworking employee whether she was working in a bank or Director of Human Resources of a large church. While working as an Administrative Assistant to the Warden, Karen developed a more efficient drug testing program for the State of Nebraska Penitentiary System. She was recognized for this innovation, with an award from the Governor of Nebraska.


Since her retirement in 2016, Karen had more time for her interests and activities. She participated in many Bible Studies, including BSF where she served as a small group leader. During her illness she was part of an international internet group with members from India, the continent of Africa and England.


Karen spent many hours sketching and painting. She sold cards and paintings in addition to gifting many canvases to family and friends. She painted an autobiographical series documenting the story of her cancer journey. Karen enjoyed participating in music ministries and learned to be an excellent ski boat driver.Karen was proceeded in death by her parents, Karl Ogg, Martina Ogg, brothers Don Ogg and Marty Ogg, her in-laws, Joe and Alice Kasson. She is survived by her husband Gregg of Henderson and her Aunt Marilyn Wieble, Nebraska City, BIL Kirk (Kim) Kasson, Almena, KS and SIL Lisa (Marc) Kasson-Bauer (Hawley, MN as well as 10 nieces and nephews and their spouses. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 30th, 4pm at Sin City Church located in Somerset Academy at 50 N Stephanie St, Henderson, NV. Interment will be held in the spring of 2026 in Estes Park, CO where her parents and brothers lie. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). To make a donation, BSF Memorials. We invited friends and family to leave condolences or memories at Star Mortuary.
