Kenneth Myers Jr.

October 10, 1947 — December 31, 2018

Kenneth Le Roy Myers Jr., age 71, passed away in Henderson, NV on December 31, 2018.  He was born on October 10, 1947 in Springfield, Ohio to Betty and Kenneth Myers. Ken started his US Air Force career in 1972.  In 1973, he married Joy Belleville (Dayter). Ken and Joy were married for 45 years, a second marriage for them both.  They had four children while traveling around from base to base: Natalie, Bonnie, Nathan, and Jonathan.  His nickname was Bear, either for his build or his gruff exterior, but little ones and family dogs knew he had a marshmallow heart.  As an Avionics technician, he loved fixing

F-111 fighter jets and was rewarded with a ride in one before he retired.  His greatest thrill was working on the then-secret stealth fighter, the F-117A Nighthawk as a member of 47th Nighthawk Squadron. Ken retired as Master Sergeant in 1992 after 20 years of service, two tours in England, a tour in Desert Storm and a TDY in Thailand before the Vietnam War ended.  Once retired from the US Air Force, he finished his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University by driving weekends to Edwards AFB in CA to attend classes.  After graduation, he started his second career in the Immigration and Naturalization Service.  He started as a FOIA Officer and later took the position of Immigration Service Officer.  Ken loved taking part in naturalization ceremonies where he could welcome new citizens of the United States.  He retired for the second time after 20 years of service.  Ken was very proud to have served his country in both of his careers.

Ken was a member of Crossroads Community Church and he loved the Lord. While a boy in school, he played baseball and football, and never outgrew his love for both watching the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Browns play on television.  When he was fortunate enough to make a trip back to Dayton, Ohio, he loved attending the games in person. In his younger years, he was an outdoorsman and golfer.  A very patient and stoic man, he even enjoyed camping and vacationing with his family.  Ken loved to travel; learn about military history; going to museums, especially airplane museums; and attend air shows.  He also loved his TV programs, saw every John Wayne movie multiple times as well as all the old movies on Turner Classics, slap stick comedies, and, later in life, kid movies like Despicable Me and Toy Story with his grandchildren.

Ken is survived by his wife, Joy; four children Natalie (Darryl) Gutierrez, Bonnie Myers, Nathan (Nicole) Myers, Jonathan (Jessica) Myers; grandchildren Tonia (Dace) Beck, Antonio Gutierrez, Nathan Rey Gutierrez, Brandon (Kim) Myers, Hailey Myers, Dominique Myers, Katya Myers, Angelique Myers, Alexander Myers, and Grayson Myers, Cole Myers, Rachel Myers, and Lorelai Myers; one great grandson Riley Myers and another on the way; three siblings Kerry (Nancy) Myers, Bette Stekli, and Kevin (Darcel) Myers; his mother-in-law Dorothy Brennan, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.  Ken was a terrific grandpa – he truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren for the last 33 years.  He loved reading stories, sharing his interests, and taking part in their lives.  He is and will be greatly missed, but we know we will see him again.
