Kevin Ells
Mesquite, Nevada – Kevin Ells, 52, passed away at home on January 10, 2023, from a 14-month battle with GBM brain cancer. He bravely fought through brain surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, pain, and the frustration of not being able to work anymore and do the things that had been easy for him.
Kevin was born on August 24, 1970, in Sycamore, Illinois, to Dorlan and Doris (Fehrenbacher) Ells. Kevin married Sue on 12-13-14 in Las Vegas, Nevada and they lived in Mesquite.
Kevin was raised in Sycamore, Illinois where he attended school and graduated from high school in 1988. He lived and worked there until 2001 when he moved to Mesquite to be near his parents who were going through some medical issues.
Kevin worked at Do it Best Corp in Mesquite, NV for the last 16 years and was one of the original employees hired when Do it Best came to Mesquite. He was a dedicated and hard worker, always giving 100 % to his work.
Kevin was a private person who liked to be home more than anywhere else. He liked to be outdoors working in the yard and had a green thumb. He grew many types of plants and trees in the yard, especially flowering plants that attracted hummingbirds and other birds. Kevin was an avid sports fan, especially of football and baseball. He knew the coaches, the players and the history of many teams, but especially about his beloved Chicago teams: The Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs, and Northern Illinois University.
Kevin was a dog person and always had a dog or two. They loved him and he loved them. Kevin and Sue have three dogs who are now missing him. Kevin wasn’t shy about saying that he liked dogs more than people. Kevin was quiet around people but had a sharp sense of humor that came out at the most unexpected times, and he cracked people up. He said aloud, the things others would only think about, but never say. Kevin and Sue went to many, many, concerts and enjoyed doing that together.
Though Kevin didn’t like to leave home, he and Sue went on a couple of road trips to places Kevin had never seen and ended up loving. They drove to Northern Utah, Idaho, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and Moab staying and exploring each place. Kevin’s last trip was in October 2022, to a place that Sue had been wanting to take him for a long time because he had never been. They went to the ocean and spent time on the beach and on the coast in Malibu for a couple of days. Kevin was in awe of the vastness and power of the ocean, the waves crashing on the beach and under the pier. It was a beautiful and peaceful place to visit in the last couple of months of his life. Kevin will be greatly missed by his wife and the rest of his family who loved him, and by the people who got to know him and worked with him at Do it Best.
Kevin loved his family, and his time was spent with and around them.
Kevin is preceded in death by his father, Dorlan Ells.
