Marion Derby

January 27, 1934 — November 22, 2020

Boulder City

Marion (Maddox) Derby was born on January 27, 1934 in Newnan, Georgia to Jackson Lee Maddox and Doris (Camps) Maddox.  Marion spent her younger years in Charleston, South Carolina where she graduated high school.  Her family left the beautiful costal garden of the southeast and moved to Boulder City, NV in 1949 where Marion was “Certain that she had been sent to Hell.” Just a few years later however she met and fell in love with Gerald Derby who was stationed at Nellis AFB. The two were married in 1953 at Grace Community Church in Boulder City.  The happy couple then moved to Southern California where they began to raise a family.  They returned to Boulder City in 1979.  Marion worked for the Bureau of Reclamation at Hoover Dam where she retired.

Marion played a major role in raising her two grandsons Jacob and Joseph who were the light in her life. She was known to as mom/grandma by many as she had an unlimited supply of kindness and understanding.  Marion enjoyed boating on Lake Mead and the river; spending summer days at their cabin in Utah and especially enjoyed reading a good book with a glass of wine. Marino was a wonderful mother, grandmother, wife and a beautiful human being.

Marion is preceded in death by Gerald her husband of 49 years and her brother Jack Maddox.  She is survived by her two sons Michael and Kent Derby and her two grandsons Jacob and Joseph Derby.  On November 22, 2020 Marion’s time here ended as she passed on peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She will be missed and remembered.  Services are currently pending and will be updated shortly. Family and friends can leave condolences at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
