Martha Cooney

Martha, beloved wife, mom, grandma and great grandma, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026 at the age of 85.

Martha met the love of her life, Jim, in Chelsea, MA where they were married on May 5, 1961. Together they built a life rooted in love, resilience, and family. As a proud Navy wife, Martha embraced a life of constant change with patience, strength, and creating a home wherever they were stationed.

She was the loving mother of Debbie (Tom), Jim Jr. (Laura) and Cheryl (Gene), and a proud grandma and great grandma to many who brought her endless smiles.

Martha found happiness in life’s simple pleasures- gardening, fall leaves in her front yard, lunches and phone calls with dear friends, and a special bond with her neighbors. She found great comfort in those friendships and in the warmth of her home in North Chicago. From tissues tucked into every pocket to her love of vacuums, earrings and good piece toast, these small quirks made her uniquely Martha. Mom, we will miss you!

In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James E. Cooney, Sr. We take comfort in knowing they are together again.

Services will be held privately. Martha will be cremated and placed with her dearest husband at the Veterans Cemetery in Boulder City.
