Mary Edith Dunagan, a lifelong resident of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 11, 2026, at Henderson Hospital. She was 79 Years old.
Mary was born on December 1, 1947, at the historic old Boulder City Hospital on Arizona Street. She was the cherished daughter of John and Eunice Layton, prominent local figures who owned and operated Layton’s Market at 900 Utah Street from 1944 until their retirement in 1979.
Growing up in the heart of Boulder City, Mary developed a deep, lifelong love for her hometown and it's close-knit community. She was preceded in death by her devoted parents and her dear sister, Nita Pong.
Mary is survived by her son, John Dunagan; her daughter-in-law, Tania Dunagan; and her two granddaughters, Jordann and Nicolette Dunagan. Mary’s resilience, sharp wit, and independent spirit were the pillars upon which her son built his own family, and these enduring traits will live on through the loved ones she leaves behind.
Per Mary’s explicit wishes, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. Instead, her family will honor her final request by scattering her ashes privately at a peaceful vantage point overlooking Lake Mead and the town she loved so dearly.
