Mary Pitts

February 4, 1924 — March 29, 2016

Mary "Louise" (Dorton) Pitts, age 92, passed away of natural causes on March 29, 2016. She was born on February 4, 1924, in Ashland City, TN, to Jesse and Eula (Forehand) Dorton. Louise served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II as a recruiter stationed in San Diego, CA.

Louise moved to Las Vegas in 1948 and never left the town she loved. She was a member of the culinary union and worked as a waitress at the El Cortez, the Fremont Hotel, the Pioneer Club, the Stardust, and the Aladdin. After a short retirement, Louise returned to work for another ten years before finishing her career at the Flamingo Hilton.

An independent spirit, Louise enjoyed working on her house and yard and was proficient at painting, wallpapering, tiling and even plumbing. She was a talented seamstress and created many beautiful items for her granddaughters. Louise loved to spend summers in Alaska with her son, Dan, and his family. She enjoyed many early mornings fishing for King Salmon on the Kenai River. Louise also loved animals; her Dachshunds were constant, devoted companions for many years of her life.

Louise is survived by her son, Dan Pitts, and daughter-in-law, Reean; granddaughter Jenna (Pitts) Wohead and husband Rob Wohead; granddaughter Tracy Pitts and fiance' Jon Woller; great-grandson Henry Wohead; brother-in-law Robert Biggins; nieces Patricia Tallant, Patricia Eustice, Dawn Jones, Sandy Gifford, and Val Jones; nephews Rick Jones and Steve Jones; cousin Mike Dorton and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Mary Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Buford Dorton and her sister Theresa (Dorton, Jones) Biggins.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
