Ned Allen Goldston, 63, of New Harmony, Utah, and Boulder City, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Ned was born March 17, 1960, in Artesia, New Mexico, to C.B. and Margery Funk Goldston. He was the third of six children. Ned was born and lived in Artesia, NM, and moved to Las Vegas when he was six. His family moved to Boulder City when he was nine, where he finished school.
Ned served a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Okayama, Japan. While attending college at BYU-Hawaii, he met his sweetheart, Anita Jeannette, and sealed in the St. George Temple. They raised two beautiful daughters, Haunani and Maile Goldston, in Gilbert, AZ. Ned and Jeannette were married for 24 years when Jeannette was diagnosed with cancer and passed away.
Ned later met and was sealed to his sweetheart Shannon Goldston in the Gilbert Arizona Temple in July 2017. Marrying Shannon also gave him a new challenge of raising six additional children. They were married for six wonderful years and enjoyed the complexity and excitement of blending their families.
During his school years, Ned played the tuba, rebuilt car engines, loved dating, spent time with his friends, and became an Eagle Scout. His broad shoulders and muscular arms resulted from weightlifting and building houses with his dad every summer. Ned was musically talented. He played the guitar and ukulele and sang with a deep, mesmerizing voice; during college, he had a starring role in the Saturday’s Warriors musical. As a teenager, he became a self-taught and accomplished artist; he did artwork for local businesses and went to BYU-Hawaii on an art scholarship.
Ned enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking, and all other outdoor adventures. Ned was a “jack of all trades” as he could fix anything, build everything, and cook the most fantastic food. He loved to talk to friends, neighbors, and people he just met. He is remembered for being a great storyteller. He loved to talk about his house-building adventures, his cat Midnight, and soggy sandwiches on family road trips. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved serving in the Bishopric and teaching gospel doctrine. He also loved serving as a temple worker alongside his first wife, Jeannette.
While Ned worked for Medtronic, he began building and remodeling homes. He was a self-taught woodworker and an accomplished carver known for his artistic detail and skill.
His two children and six step-children survive Ned: Haunani Goldston Udall (Nathan), Maile Goldston (Blake), Tyler Michael Harker (Kaitlyn), Sean Matthew Harker, Katelyn Harker, Zachary Kyle Harker, Karlee Harker, Blake Thomas Harker, eight grandchildren, and one step-grandchild. He is also survived by three siblings, Nancy Goldston Smith (Ron), Tom Goldston, and Donna Goldston Stepherson (Byron), brother-in-law Ugochukwu Anosike (Karen), and sister-in-law Kendra Goldston (Larry). Ned was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, and two siblings: Karen (Ugochukwu) and Larry Goldston (Kendra).
