Perry E. Abbott, 78, passed away Friday, May 30, 2025 at his family home in Mesquite, NV. He was born March 21, 1947 in Mesquite, NV to Lyman and Lydia Knight Abbott. On June 27, 1970, he married the love of his life, Cherryl Ann Bundy, in the St. George, UT temple.
Perry was a proud lifelong resident of Mesquite, where he spent his youth raising chickens and farming eggs. He attended and graduated in 1965 from Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite, NV and shortly thereafter enlisted in the U.S. Army in February 1966. He was stationed in Germany and served honorably in the Vietnam War as a radio technician.
Following his military service, one of his cousins introduced him to her best friend, Cherryl, who would become his best friend and eternal companion. After working for the U.S. Postal Service in Las Vegas for six years they moved back to Mesquite and raised their family there for the remainder of his life. Perry went on to work at the Reid Gardner Plant for Nevada Power for nearly 30 years before retiring.
A man of the land, Perry was known throughout the valley for his gardening expertise a skill he lovingly credited to his Grandma Knight. Whether it was vegetables, fruit, or flowers, Perry had a gift, and he generously shared both his knowledge and harvest with neighbors, friends and anyone in need. He also raised a variety of animals over the years, from pigeons and chickens to rabbits and goats, and passed on his self-sufficient lifestyle to his children and grandchildren.
Perry had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and the power of the priesthood. He faithfully served in many callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His faith and love of service shaped his life and his family's legacy.
Perry is survived by his children Brandon (Jennifer) Abbott, Chad (Tabitha) Abbott, Sirena Tafili, all of Mesquite, NV; and Kelsi (Stephen) Olsen of Vineyard, UT. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and his siblings: Imagene (Ken) Carter of Panguitch, UT;Lyman (Beverly) Abbott of Beaver, UT; Lee (Marci) Abbott of Bountiful, UT; and Laren (Elaine) Abbott of Mesquite, NV.
