Raymond Gerald Howard

Raymond Gerald Howard, 82, of Boulder City, NV passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024. He was born on October 17, 1941 in Greensboro, North Carolina to Lester and Anna Howard.

Gerald grew up in the Knoxville, TN area, graduating from Fulton High School in 1960 and attending 2 years of trade school at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, NC.

In 1967, Gerald moved to Alaska. There, he began his life-long career with the United States Postal Service. Through the USPS, he met Durwood Huls and was introduced to his daughter Nan Lorayne Huls, whom he married in August 1970. 

Gerald joined the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and in September 1971, he and Nan were sealed for time and eternity in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.

In 1976, they moved to Spanish Fork, Utah, where they welcomed five children into their family. They also resided in Salem and Elk Ridge. In 1995, they relocated to Knoxville, TN to care for Gerald’s ailing parents. After 35+ years with the USPS, Gerald retired in 2008.

Following retirement, Gerald moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, then to Tooele, Utah, and eventually settled in Boulder City, NV where he lived until his death.

Throughout his life, Gerald held various callings within the LDS Church and was involved with Cub Scouts|Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed engaging in conversation, telling stories, researching various topics that caught his interest, reading, woodworking, arts and crafts, knitting, sewing, gardening, spending time outdoors, and trying new recipes. He had a passion for Family History and Genealogy and loved anything to do with Native American history or culture.

Gerald is survived by his six children: Michael Courtney (from a previous marriage to Sharon Neal; divorced 1967), Jason (Kendra) and their two children; Matthew (Maria) and their six children; Tara (BJ) and their five children; Lance (Leanna) and their four children; Richard (Julia) and their child; and his three siblings Lester (Barbara), David (Donna), and Judy. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Nan Lorayne Huls Howard, father Lester H. Howard Sr, and mother Anna Lillian Thomas.

A memorial service for family and friends will be held graveside at the Salem City, Utah Cemetery on June 26, 2024 at 11:00am MDT.
