Rion O'Brien

September 24, 1951 — May 26, 2025

Mesquite

Rion Joseph O’Brien passed away peacefully in Hospice Care on Monday, May 26, 2025, after a battle with prostate cancer. Rion was born on September 24, 1951, in Los Angeles. He was the son of the late Martha (Strauss) and Robert O’Brien. After his mother’s death he was raised by his paternal grandmother, Alma O’Brien. Rion graduated from Hollywood High School in 1969.

Rion married his great love, Toni (Jarrell) O’Brien on October 13, 1973, and they were happily together for over forty-seven years until Toni passed away in March of 2021. Rion is survived by his son, Kevin and his wife, Heather.

Rion was a court clerk with the county of Los Angeles for over thirty years. He retired in March 2007. At that point, Rion and Toni moved to Mesquite, Nevada. Rion was the President of the Sedona Homeowner’s Association for several years in Mesquite.

Rion had a kind heart and a giving nature. For years he would ring the Salvation Army bell at Christmastime at Lee’s Discount Liquors in Mesquite, dressed in a full Santa suit. In his free time, he would enjoy bowling in a variety of leagues, both in California and in Mesquite. He enjoyed photography and astronomy and could always be found watching the L.A. Kings hockey team and later worked on petitions to, help bring the Golden Knights to Las Vegas.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rion’s memory to either the American Cancer Society or to the Salvation Army, or to a charity of your choice. You may leave condolences or memories at www.starmortuary.com.
