Robert Gilbert Glans, age 91, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2011 with his family by his side. He was born on May 4, 1920 in Ridgway, PA the son of John and Dora Harkins Glans. He served in the US Army with distinction during World War II under the command of Captain Matt Urban also known as "The Ghost" with the E Co. 2nd Battalion the 60th Infantry Regiment in the 9th Infantry Division. He was a brave proud rifleman that landed on Normandy Beach with the invasion force and fought in many major battles before he was wounded in one of the worst battles of the war in Huertgen Forest, Germany. His awards included: The Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman's badge, distinguished unit badge and numerous awards and citations. He was a charter member of the Boulder City, Nevada VFW and a life member of the DAV, Henderson, Nevada.

He was employed by Elliott Company in Ridgway, Pennsylvania until it closed in 1956. He then worked as hydroelectric specialist with General Electric Company on numerous hydroelectric power projects throughout the country including the Hoover Dam, retiring in 1984.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Louise of 63 years and his sister Reva Lewis of Ridgway, PA.

His survivors include his son Dennis and wife Joan of Las Vegas, NV and his daughter Karen Hughes of Henderson, NV. He has 4 grandchildren Derek Hughes and Danny Hughes of Las Vegas, Shawn Glans of South Glens Falls, NY and Mark Glans of Henderson, NV and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial and burial will be at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
