Robert Joseph Hemley

Robert Joseph Hemley Sr., 89, of Mesquite, Nevada, passed away peacefully at his home on November 4, 2026, with his daughter Amy by his side.

Robert was born on March 21, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, to Joseph Hemley and Anna McEvoy. He married the love of his life, Catherine, and together they raised two children. They shared 45 wonderful years together before her passing in 2011.

Bob spent many years working for the City of New York as a bus driver before advancing to the position of dispatcher, from which he eventually retired. After moving to Mesquite, Nevada, he found himself back behind the wheel, driving for Silver Rider and transporting local seniors. He enjoyed staying busy, meeting people, and continuing to do something he had always loved.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed visiting the casinos and trying his luck, spending time at the gun range, and watching the Mets and Jets play on TV. He was also a member of his local Elks lodge and spent many hours visiting with friends there.  Above all else, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine, and his son, Michael.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Karen) Hemley Jr., of Manalapan, New Jersey; his daughter, Amy Hemley, of Mesquite, Nevada; and his daughters Carrin (Nicholas, Thomas, and Keyra) and Denise (Jessi, Rob, Shane, and Rikki), of Florida. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Justin, Jesse, Patrick, Katherine, Peter, and Mya.

A memorial service will be held celebrating his life at a later date in Brooklyn, New York.
