Russell Gilmore

March 10, 1944 — May 23, 2016

Russell James Gilmore passed away at home on May 23, 2016, while being held and whispered to by "his girls," as his dog Nellie lay devotedly on his bed. He was a man who gave so much and asked for little in return. When he requested to come home, his family willingly honored his wishes. They are forever grateful to Nathan Adelson Hospice for making this possible.

Russ was born in Santa Monica, CA on March 10, 1944, to Floyd and Viola Gilmore. He served his country in the United States Navy in the 1960's during the Cuban Crisis and Vietnam War. He married JoAnne Light in Las Vegas, NV on May 10, 1969. They moved to Boulder City in 1984. Russ spent his career in real estate-related businesses, spending his final years as an agent/ broker, owning his own real estate office.

Russ was a man who cherished life, loved telling his family how much they meant to him and who constantly made them laugh. Even in their time of grief they can hear his input of what to inscribe on his memorial plaque. "I'd rather be at the golf course." "Just resting my eyes." "I told you I was sick."

Christmas was his favorite time of the year and the little house where he lived and loved sent up a glow each year that could be seen for blocks. He so appreciated the acknowledgment of his effort when townspeople would stop to tell him how much they enjoyed the display each year.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Gilmore, three daughters, Gwen Ramsey, Tiffany (Robert) Gilmore-Martin, Krista (Kyle Hammond) Gilmore; three adored grandchildren, Owen, Connor and Lucy. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Thomas Gilmore.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 12:40 p.m. at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005. Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
