On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, Thomas (Tom) Edward Branning, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the age of 84.
He was born in Mississippi on June 4, 1936 to parents, Henry L. and Annie Partridge Branning, as one of 14 children; six sisters: Juanita McGee, Christine Richardson, Reva Shearer Duggan, Lena Galloway, and Wanda Dees, Elaine Branning Bechtelheimer, and seven brothers: Thurmond L., William A., Oliver G., Henry L., Royce L., James C., and Jackie Branning.
Tom graduated from Satartia H.S. in 1954. Just a few months after graduation he joined the Army and served for 20 years, retiring as a Major. During his service years, he graduated from Officers Training School, Helicopter Pilot School, and the University of Nebraska Omaha and served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. After he retired from active duty, he went on to work in the Pentagon for 14 more years. Following his second retirement, he and his wife, Mary, eventually settled in Henderson, Nevada, where he enjoyed playing golf, chatting up neighbors, and spending time with his family (and very spoiled dogs).
He is survived by his wife (Mary), siblings (Elaine and Jackie), children (Mark and Stella), step-daughters (Barbara and Robin), grandchildren (Nicole, Erin, Jacob, Tessa, Colby, Mattie, Q, and Jack), and great-grandchildren (Harlee and Isaac).
Family will be holding the service at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, followed by an informal gathering. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate
