Virginia Edith (Spinney) Taylor, 75, passed peacefully at home Sunday December 14, 2025. She was born August 12, 1950 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Bertha Shamberger and adopted a year later by Jack Spinney. Virginia was the oldest of eight with six younger brothers (Charles Spinney, Johnny Spinney (deceased), Billy Spinney, Philo Spinney, Jeff Spinney and James Richan) and one sister (Jeanette Spinney (deceased)). Virginia referred to herself as "from the Island," meaning Gloucester, Massachusetts and often shared that the water she learned to swim in was unlike any other because of its proximity to where the Gulf stream meets the Arctic. Throughout her childhood and youth no matter where her family moved they always ended up back on the island.
At the age of twenty six Virginia learned of and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, finally finding a faith that agreed with her belief in and understanding of the Bible.
She settled in Northern Utah after a cross country job move to San Francisco stalled in 1977. There she met and married her husband H. Calvin Taylor (Divorced) in 1978. Together they had five children David (deceased), Faye Dawn (deceased), Mary Anne (William Muir-Boulder City, NV) Heather (St. George, UT), and Johnathan (St. George, UT).
At the time of her passing she had 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren with one more on the way.
Whether she worked as an office clerk, daycare provider, court clerk, loan officer or certified nurse helping people focused all her work goals. Through quiet explanations she helped clients, young moms, those down on their luck, and her elderly patients learn how to navigate the requirements associated with the work she performed. Often going above and beyond she helped change the lives of those she served.
Split between her grandchildren, she moved back and forth between Southern Utah and Southern Nevada, until her health forced her into retirement.
Finally settling in Boulder City, NV she found joy in service, volunteering at the local senior center and hospital gift shop, until her health no longer supported such pursuits. She also proved her "Island" roots by swimming almost daily at the Boulder City swimming pool. With her strong will and inquisitive mind she is a driving example affecting generations of family and loved ones.
She is survived by her five brothers, two daughters, a son, all grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, baby brother, sister, eldest son and eldest daughter.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10:00 a.m. January 19, 2026 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel located at 916 5th St, Boulder City, NV.
